How to understand Quran

After Masnuna in the sermon: Muhtaram friend and elder! How fortunate it is for me that Allah has blessed me with the blessings of the Caliphs of Qutbul Irshad Maulana Ganguhi and Shaikhul Hind Maulana Mahmud Hasan and other elders. God’s mercy and grace, because of this religious atmosphere is seen in the city. I have been asked to discuss the ‘manners of understanding the Qur’an‘; Therefore, I recited the verse in which Allah Almighty described the purpose and purpose of sending the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to earth.

The purpose of sending the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, says:

God has believed in the believers because He sent among them messengers from among themselves, reciting to them His verses and teaching them the Book and wisdom, and they were among the first to be misguided.

‘Allah has shown great mercy and grace to the believers that He has sent a Messenger from among them.’ He who recites His verses to them, purifies them and teaches them the Book and wisdom. Although they were previously in clear confusion.-Ale Imran: 164

The first favor of Allah is to send a Messenger. The second grace, sent from among men. That is, He sent a Messenger who understood human needs. He understands what people need, what people need. He has not sent an angel who does not eat or drink. Then Allah Almighty described the four purposes of sending the Prophet –

1. يتلو عليهم اياته ‘Recite to them the Book and the verses.’

2. ويزكيهم ‘sanctifies them.’ That is, make their character holy and beautiful, make them better and better.

3-4. ويعلمهم الكتاب والحكمة ‘Taught them the book and wisdom.’

Qur’an recitation is a separate purpose These four purposes have been mentioned by Allah in four places. This shows their importance. I would like to discuss two of these four. Recitation of the Book and Talim of the Book. Allah has declared the recitation of the verses of the Holy Quran as a separate purpose of sending the Prophet. And understanding the Quran is another purpose. I hope this will put an end to the misunderstanding of many who say that children are memorized like parrots in schools. If they do not understand the meaning and explanation, what will be their use?

This verse of the Qur’an puts an end to the misunderstanding of those people and declares that the recitation of the Qur’an is a separate purpose in itself. The Beauty of Tajwid in Knowledge The Qur’an is a book of guidance, unlike the book of ordinary doctors or sages. Because if you don’t understand their system it is of no use. And the Quran Sharif is a book of guidance, reading every single letter of which ten virtues can be found. It is a book, from which is derived knowledge, the like of which cannot be found in any nation of the world. One of these is ‘Ilmut Tajweed’.

That is, the correct way of pronouncing the letters of the Quran. Like where the letter अ is pronounced from. What is its main purpose? ب is pronounced from What is the difference between ض and ظ? These things are known from Ilm Tajweed. There is no such thing in other languages. For example, in English it is not known where D comes from, where C and H are pronounced. For this reason, it can be seen that their pronunciation also differs from place to place. They are pronounced one way in America and another in Europe. Everyone pronounces it in their own way.

Recitation is the first step in understanding the Qur’an. The Qur’an is a book that was brought by Hazrat Gabriel. He used to recite the Quran. As Allah Ta’ala says – فاذا قرآنه فطعب القرآنه ‘When the angel starts reciting the Qur’an, follow him.’ The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to recite the Qur’an to his Companions in the manner in which the Qur’an was revealed. And Sahaba used to learn it. Alhamdulillah, today we can say out loud that we are reciting the Qur’an exactly the way the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, used to recite it.

It has not changed. Allah has given this ummah the status of having given a scripture like the Tajweed in knowledge. Correct pronunciation and recitation of Quranic verses is the first condition to understand the meaning of Quran. If someone cannot recite the Quran correctly, how can he understand the Quran? Moreover, the recitation of the Quran is a separate purpose. So no one should think that learning and teaching the Qur’an in Maktab is useless. Nowjubillah. Teaching the Kitabullah to Arabic speakers Teaching the Kitabullah is one of the most important purposes of sending the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.

Describing this purpose, Allah Almighty says, ويعلمهم الكتاب ‘The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, teaches the believers the Book.’ What is the purpose of book learning? Just tell me the translation of the verse? He will teach Abu Bakr, Umar, Usman, Ali RA. Do they not know the Arabic language? All of them were proficient in Arabic language. Hazrat Umar Farooq Radiyallahu Anhu was so proficient in Arabic that even great writers would correct it when they presented their ‘Kalam’ before him. Arab women were also poets by nature.

On the other hand, the Qur’an declares بلسان عربى مبين ‘The Qur’an has been revealed in clear Arabic.’ Then they did not need a teacher to learn Arabic or to understand the meaning of the Quran. But it can be seen that even then Allah sent the Prophet to teach the Quran to the Arabic speakers. From this it was understood that only by reading the translation or only knowing the Arabic language, the understanding of the Kitabullah and the knowledge of the Qur’an are not achieved; Rather, to understand the Qur’an correctly, a teacher or mentor is definitely needed.

Nature Differences Between Humans and Other Animals God has made the nature of humans such that they cannot master anything by reading books; A teacher or mentor is definitely needed to acquire skills. Allah has made a difference between humans and other animals in some respects. As a chicken lays an egg, the egg hatches. The baby starts walking on the first day after hatching. Fish fry start swimming after being born in water. Seeing this, what happens if someone leaves his child in the water thinking that he will start swimming? Although he needs a teacher to learn to swim.

There is no perfection in any subject without a teacher. If one buys books of medical science and reads them, then starts giving treatment, then what service will there be other than increasing the population of the graveyard? Similarly, people will not accept him as an engineer just by reading books on engineering. There are many cooking books available in the market, which have written rules. How biryani is made, how to make kebabs, how to make korma – after looking at these rules, if you make korma and kebabs, I don’t know if it will be a strange kind of food; For this, you have to take training from an experienced person.

Nothing in the world can be achieved without the guardian’s supervision. Only the Book was never revealed without a Prophet. Every book that Allah revealed, the Injil, the Jabur, the Torah or the Qur’an, sent a Prophet with each one. It also happened that when the Prophet came, the new book did not come. However, no example can be found that only the Book has come, but the Prophet has not come. Why? Because man is created by God, so he knows the nature and disposition of man well that along with the book, man also needs teachers and guardians.

There is no benefit from the book without light, in one place of the Qur’an, Allah says very precisely – قد جاءكم من الله نور وكتاب مبين ‘Light and an open book have come to you from Allah.’ -Mayda: 15 Here is meant by Noor, the light of the Prophet’s teachings. From this it is understood that no matter how excellent the book is, if it is not accompanied by the light of the teachings of the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, no benefit can be obtained from it. An example of this is the light of the eye. If there is no light of the eye, what will be the benefit of only the book?

Without the light of the teachings of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), no benefit can be gained from the Qur’an. The responsibility of the Prophet to teach the book was the demand of the polytheists of Mecca ‘Why is the Qur’an not revealed all at once.’ -Furqan: 32 Had Allah willed, people would go to sleep at night and wake up in the morning to find a well-bound copy of the Qur’an under their pillow. And they were told, take, the book has arrived. Read, understand and act. If so, it would be a miracle. As a result, faith could be expected more.

But it did not happen; Rather, the Qur’an came, bringing light with it. Lest it be that you begin to understand the meaning according to your own mind and begin to act according to your own understanding. That is why Allah sent the teacher and gave him the responsibility of teaching the book. Elsewhere Allah says, وانزلنا اليك الذكر لتبين للناس ما نزل اليهم ‘O Prophet! We have revealed the Qur’an to you so that you may make clear to the people what has been revealed to them.’ – Nahl: 44 The teaching method of the first Islamic madrasah How did the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, teach this book? Hazrat Saad bin Abi Waqqas RA.

He said, I have been teaching Surah Baqara for eight years. In this way, ‘at the same time I used to teach knowledge, practice and recitation of the Quran.’ It took me eight years to learn this way. Allama Suyuti Rah. He mentioned this narration in the book ‘Al Itqan’, I hope you know about Suffah. These were the Companions who stayed at the place called Suffa. Their only job was to achieve what the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said. This suffa is the first madrasa and the first university in the history of Islam.

What happened here? The Companions used to attend the service of the Messenger of Allah. They used to learn and understand what the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said and did. He watched his movements closely. By these he understood the commentary of the Qur’an. This was the method of attaining knowledge of the Sahaba. In other words, they used to acquire the knowledge of the Qur’an and practice on it at the same time. The folly of explaining the Qur’an by relying only on translation has gained closeness to the Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him). He gained knowledge from his presence.

After that, the Companions taught the Tabees. Tabeys to Tabeys. In this way Alhamdulillah this continuation of the Prophet’s teaching has come down to us today.

Now if someone says, I don’t need a teacher, I read the translation and understand what I understand – then you ask your conscience, that Allah sent the Prophet to explain the interpretation of the Qur’an, the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, taught it for twenty-three years. , for which the Sahaba have spent their lives, what the Tabayeen have preserved and passed down to us – if someone says I do not need a teacher without accepting these things; Rather, what I understand is correct, so what can be greater stupidity? What does ‘Quran easy’ mean?

Some people make a mistake in understanding the meaning of a verse of the Quran. It is important to remove it here. The Qur’an says, ولقد يسرنا القرآن للذكر فهل من مدكر ‘I have made the Qur’an easy for the admonition to take.’ So is there anyone who will take that advice? Some say, we will understand the translation of the Quran from the Quran itself and act on it. Those who say such things have not understood the meaning of this verse.

It should be remembered very well that the contents of the Qur’an are of two types: First type: There are some verses in which Allah Almighty advises people that Allah is One, He says about the Hereafter that one day you will all return.

A common man can accept this advice only by reading the translation. This is why the Qur’an clearly says that it is easy to accept advice. Second type: The second type of matters, in which Allah Almighty has presented commandments and amchals or parables.

Regarding these commandments, Allah himself says – وتلك الامعدلها نزربها للناس وما يعقلها الا العلامون ‘I give these similes for the benefit of people, but only those with knowledge will understand them.’ And knowledge is what the Companions achieved. If someone says now after fourteen years, I will research and interpret the Qur’an myself, I do not understand what has been explained so far, I do not accept them, but I will understand with my intellect, then that person will make a mistake step by step?

Sir Syed Ahmad was the first in the sub-continent to give such a commentary on ‘Mufassir’, a follower of mere intellect. From his commentary, it seems that the full Quran is like a metaphor.

There is nothing true or real about it. In a verse of the Qur’an, when his people asked Prophet Musa for water, Musa a. When you prayed to Allah, Allah commanded, ازرب بعصاك الحجر ‘Strike the stone with your stick.’ Sir Syed Ahmad explains this verse as follows – ازرب means to walk. And ‘thousand’ means hill. So the meaning of the verse is that if you climb the mountain, you will be able to see the fountain there. Musa a. Climbed the hill and saw the fountain.

So it was not a miracle, it was reality. It is a Tafseer which is different from all previous Tafseers. In another place in the Qur’an, when discussing Paradise, Allah says, ‘In Paradise there will be fruits, there will be hurr, there will be gardens and mansions.’ Sir Syed said, ‘Allah said these things so that the uneducated Bedouins are a little greedy.

In reality there is no such thing as Jannah and Hoor; Rather, Jannah is a special type of tranquility that the righteous will attain.’ Basically, this situation happened because there were no teachers. If one begins to understand the Qur’an with one’s own thoughts without teachers and mentors, the door of misguidance and corruption will surely open. This is why Allah sent Messenger along with Quran.

A miser who understands the Qur’an only with his own mind has come in the Qur’an – والسارق والسارقة فاقطوا ايديهما ‘Cut off the hands of the male thief and the female thief.’ Now a new ‘Mufassir’ says, cut off the hand, make money useless and punish him in such a way that he never steals or dares to steal again.

Why did he do such commentary? Because the West says, the punishment of cutting hands in Islam is a brutal act. So in fear of them, he folded his hands in front of them and said, the meaning of the verse is not to cut hands; Rather, punish them in such a way that they can never steal again. So if there is no teacher and mentor, the way of all such ‘tafseer’ will be exposed.

The direction of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam and the Companions There will be no limit to corruption and misguidance if you start the interpretation of the Qur’an with the help of translation only with the help of your own mind without the interpretation described from. Understanding the Qur’an requires self-purification, that’s why in some places of the Qur’an, ويزكيهم is preceded by ويعلمهم الكتاب. That is, first purify them, purify them, form their character, earn sincerity and lillahiyat. Then it will be beneficial to teach money. That is why one of the tafseers of the Qur’an Sharif verse-ولا يمسهم الا المتهرون is also made that do not touch the Qur’an without being pure.

That is, those who are cleansed from bad morals, sincerity and talab will appear in them, then they will focus on learning the Quran. First, make dua to Allah, that He may make you pure and make you ask for sincerity and truth. Then learn it from teachers and mentors. Then it will be possible to obtain the light of the Quran. Otherwise the door of misguidance will be opened. May Allah protect us. Translation: Hafeez Maulana Fakhruzaman
